Conductivity is indeed a direct measure of ionic concentration. If water is pure, its conductivity will be relatively low. However, the presence of salts, minerals, and even dissolved gases can uniformly increase a solution’s conductivity. As a result, conductivity can be a helpful indicator of the quantity of dissolved materials in a solution.
